Mt Compass Market Report 5 September
Mount Compass Market Report
Yarding: 614
There was a yarding of only average quality cattle offered by agents.
All of the usual buyers were in attendance and bidding was best described as steady on most classes and values remained on a par with last week’s sale.
Export cattle demand was static and local as well as interstate processor bidding was pedestrian.
Heavyweight bulls sold from 205c to 215c/kg, medium weights traded from 220 to 235c and lightweights sold to similar demand and returned 180c to 240c.
Cow demand was similar to last week and heavyweight beef breed cows remained firm, they sold from 225c to 238c, lightweights sold from 160 to 210c and dairy bred cows returned vendors up to 200/kg.
Heavyweight steers and bullocks were scarce, despite this, export demand remained on a par with last week, they sold from 270 to 293c. Grown heifers attracted more attention, they lifted 5c and sold from 250 to 277c.
Few vealers were yarded, trade buyers were very keen to secure any prime lots, bidding was brisk, prices were firm on strong recent sales and vendors were rewarded with prices from 280 to 310c.
Prime yearlings were scarce. Steers sold up to 305c and heifers 295c.
Well bred, store condition, lightweight cattle sold to steady bidding from feeders and restockers at prices on a par with recent sales. Once again it was the heavier end of the offering that attracted the greatest competition. Steers to feed lotters sold from260 to 290c and heifers returned 230 to 250c/kg lwt.
